Film Lublin

A publication by the Lublin Film Found (City Hall’s Culture Department Unit) is a study on the film industry, its achievements, plans and influence on the city’s development.

The book is directed to the two main groups of readers: filmmakers potentially interested in producing their film in the locations within the city and the wider audience of film lovers, film tourists, but also those interested in Lublin itself and its history.

The two sections of the publication are: 1. descriptive (Filmowy Lublin) presenting the city’s connections with film, the history of documentary and feature films produced in the city; 2. an album (Lublin Filmowy) put together to present the open-air locations attractive for the filmmakers. We emphasized the division into the sections with additional, internal covers, which facilitate navigation and support the image functions.

We wanted to move the project towards bolder solutions and broaden the palette of means used in the City Hall’s promotional publications. That is why we abandoned hardback binding in favour of a Swiss one, and used an economical typographic cover. Moreover, instead of opening with a traditional introduction by the city authorities, we proposed an index of films made in Lublin.

In order to make the publication attractive for a broadly defined target group, we decided to refine the cover using a simple means – a subtle metalized paper is to further evoke associations with the silver screen.
