Nic-nic

Generously illustrated philosophical essay inspired by Bolesław Leśmian, “the poet of many languages”. The chosen format enabled to present poetry alongside images of various genres within the size of the so-called “typical book”. The spread was made in square-like proportions to refer to a figure (Malevich’s Black Square) reappearing across the illustrations. Our choice of the otabind softcover made it possible to apply silver foil along the spine using the hot stamping method. The foil reappearing on the book block creates a distinctive feature of the publication – a “mirror band”. We reached for the mirror effect inspired by the essay itself, to quote, among other fragments: “We live in labyrinths and castles built out of reflections between people. The perpetual multiplying of the reflections followed by their autonomization, their emancipation to live their own lives, with no relation to what their were reflected from, it is all silvering.” (p.127).
